Abstract

A - review of "Rethinking of Orientalness in Visual Art," a symposium organized by the Korean National Commission for UNESCO - and the Gwangju Biennale Foundation, held at Seoul National University and Chosun University in Gwanju. The symposium, which served as a forum for the 2004 - Gwangju Biennale (entitled "A - Grain of Dust, A - Drop of Water"), covered a range of topics: - While Asian landscape paintings and Taoism were popular subjects with Korean scholars, geopolitics and the West's lingering cultural imperialism remained crucial issues throughout the three sessions.
