Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to compare the respective sources of skepticism in ancient Chinese and ancient Greek philosophy. The conclusion reached is that although some similarity remains between Daoism and Greek skepticism, there are striking differences due to background differences. Those differences are explored in terms of metaphysical notions of contraries and complements and a difference in interpretation of the 'doctrine of the mean'.
